Houston Residents Could Have First Access to Potential COVID Treatment

Centex Studies-Houston has COVID treatment research studies enrolling in the Webster and Westfield areas.

August 6, 2020 HOUSTON, TX – Over 18 million people worldwide have tested positive for COVID-19, but there are still no FDA approved treatment options. This is where the role of clinical researchers comes into play. Centex Studies-Houston is proud to announce that they were selected to participate in research studies evaluating potential COVID treatment options. These studies will begin enrolling at their Webster and Westfield locations in Mid-August.

"We are really excited to offer access to these potential treatment options to adults in the Houston area," said Dr. Joe Pouzar, Principle Investigator at the Centex Webster location. “Not only are Houston residents getting first access, but they are also getting it at no cost, no insurance required.”

The race to find the best and most effective treatment is on, and clinical research is the only way to do that. Houston has one of the most diverse populations in the US, making it the perfect spot to research these potential options. Without representation across all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, and medical backgrounds, we would not know precisely how effective treatment could be across the entire population.

"We need volunteers from all walks of life to beat this thing," said Dr. Ali Bajwa, Principle Investigator at the Centex Westfield location. “We all have a part to play to help get life back to at least some sense of normalcy.”

To qualify to participate in these studies, patients must have tested positive for COVID-19 within 48 hours of screening. Those who participate in the studies could either receive the study drug or placebo. All studies are blinded, meaning neither the doctor nor the patient will know who received the placebo. Every patient enrolling in the studies is closely monitored by the Centex medical team and followed for up to two years after study completion for safety measures. Compensation for study-related time and travel is also available for those who qualify for and participate.
